While the world is passing through a period of unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we sincerely hope
that all our members and families are safe and healthy. Let us all pray that this challenging time will end soon.
At Vidya, we have converted the challenge into an opportunity for our operations. In accordance with the Government directives,
both our campuses and IT Centre are currently closed until further notice. However, we have successfully evaluated online
teaching methods whereby the teachers interact with the students on a live platform. This has been well accepted by the
teachers and students. All our staff are also engaged to work-from-home mode to complete essential tasks. In addition,
students and parents are kept in close touch by utilizing various communication modes available.
Moreover, admissions activities for the next academic year are going on in full swing. We are confident of achieving a high
percentage of admissions at both the campuses.
During the past few months, we have undertaken several steps towards the Vidya's future growth, in line with VGP 2020.
One such step is to restructure our group of Honorary Advisors.
We plan to request new members, especially from the industry and business, to be our Advisors. We believe that such persons
will be able to guide and support in achieving our strategic goals. As a result, Mr. V.P. Nandakumar, MD and CEO of
Manappuram Foundation has agreed to be a part of our Honorary Advisor group. We welcome Mr. Nandakumar to Vidya family.
Regarding the growth of our institutions, we believe that we need to develop "Centres of Excellence" (CoE) to attain the next
level of excellence. These CoE will enhance the image of our institutions, bring in research, consulting and training activities,
and help in attracting quality students, staff and research scholars. We are benchmarking these CoE with the best in the world.
Accordingly, we have already identified three potential areas and have started the initial phases of implementation. These are
(1) 'Vidya Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics', (2) Vidya Talent Centre and (3) Vidya Social Empowerment Centre.
We are currently identifying collaborators from academia and industry for these CoE. We will provide details of each of these
centres though our electronic media soon.
On the membership side, we had two successful meetings at Kuwait and at Doha. The meeting at Kuwait was held on December 6, 2019
and was attended by Dr. Ajaikumar, Mr. Manoj Kumar, Mr. Sabu and Mr. Shaji T.G. from EC. More than 25 members and their families
took part in this meeting. As a result, 9 persons have already joined or agreed to join Vidya. The meeting at Doha was held on
February 28, 2020 and was attended by Mr. P.K. Asokan, Mr. Sabu Soumian and Mr. Shaji T.G. About 40 people attended the meeting,
including several trustees. 8 persons have already joined or have expressed willingness to join Vidya. We have also made contacts
at Bahrain, Singapore and USA and will be arranging meetings as soon as travel conditions permit.
Regional coordinators conducted several family and trustee meetings both in UAE and in Kerala during the past four months. These
included family meetings at Thrissur on December 21, 2019, at Kollam (Team 3) on December 25, 2019, at Kollam (Team 2) on February
16, 2020 and at Trivandrum (Team 1) on February 2, 2020. Dubai RCC also arranged an informational seminar on February 21, 2020.
The CCC meeting scheduled for March 20th, 2020 had to be postponed due to the prevailing conditions and restrictions imposed by
authorities. However, we are evaluating how to conduct the meeting online.
We are assessing further the impact of the current pandemic on our operational activities and are preparing the controls and
austerity measures to be taken on a crisis management basis.
We do hope that all our Trustees are keeping their morale high during the lockdown period. Meanwhile, the EC is utilising this
time to plan for our future growth. Together, we will take Vidya to greater heights of excellence.
